Helping People Helping People: St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center

We had the privilege of going to film St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center in El Cajon, CA. They are such an inspiring organization and it was a very special week we had with them as we sat down and interviewed a group of their students, highlighting their incredible art studio and innovative programs.

St. Madeleine’s makes their impact by educating and empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Ranging from music therapy, ceramics, swimming and even computers, their innovative programs are nationally recognized and are aimed at fostering a culture of care and creativity. It was pretty cool seeing how everything in their programs worked with each other. Talking to Mitch at the garden where his vegetables get used to make food in the kitchen. Or seeing the ceramics of Dulce get used in the garden where Mitch likes to plant. We felt the love that Jennifer experiences each time she gets the opportunity to use the loom in the art studio or when Anthony sells his art at the local gallery to earn an income. St. Madeleine’s is a tremendous asset to people with developmental disabilities providing practical skills development, employment, and dignity for a lifetime.
