Let’s dive in!
Nonprofit Marketing Challenges
1) Your Biggest Marketing Challenge: “We’re great at engaging our followers, but I think we could do a better job of engaging donors – more targeted messaging, etc.” –Lindsey, Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee
Our Solution: Sometimes the unscalable is most important. Sounds like you just need to lead your team on tripling down on improved stewardship, retention and the donor experience. So talk to your donors, find out what they want and start to show more love and care. This will make them more likely to want to share your cause as well.
2) Your Biggest Marketing Challenge: “Successful storytelling.” – Kyra, Humane Society of Northeast Georgia
Our Solution: The good news is that you get to tell stories about animals and their impact on those that rescue them. Often it just comes down to sourcing stories continually and investing resources to tell those stories powerfully in video, written and possibly even audio format. Finding a volunteer or someone to document the stories via video works well because you can then quickly outsource the story for written format. Every great story follows a story arch of a powerful opening hook, setting the characters and context, then hitting conflict, followed by hope and the solution, and ensure you deliver a strong call to action.
3) Your Biggest Marketing Challenge: “Changes to Facebook pages (reaching less people) and changes to Gmail that make it difficult for our newsletter to reach people.” – Eve, Honduras Child Alliance
Our Solution: The one constant of digital is things will always be changing. Simply put, you have to roll with it. The organizations that develop this muscle and can move fast on new platforms and changes win in the long-term. There’s no easy solution. For Facebook, keep pushing out content. Be sure to highlight what makes your organization different and stand out. If you are struggling with email deliverability you gotta figure out why and improve your KPIs. Try new subject lines, dive into the data to see which emails had the highest open rates and clicks. Facebook was literally free for years and years, today it’s a pay to play platform if you really want to scale reach long-term. Both email and organic Facebook are simply maturing and you have to adjust.
4) Your Biggest Marketing Challenge: “My biggest challenge is coming up with fresh ideas and staying on top of trends in marketing.” – Andrea, Synagogue
Our Solution: It’s hard to make the time to learn, but podcasts are some of the freshest best ways to learn on the go. It’s worth the time to stay inspired, learn from other nonprofit marketers and strengthen your skill sets.
